Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin has on Tuesday been convicted for the murder of George Floyd, after a jury at the Minnesota State Court found him guilty on all three counts of murder. The ex-cop who knelt on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes, causing his death was found guilty of all three charges; second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter.
Chauvin’s bail was immediately revoked and was placed into custody until sentencing.
The ex-cop could be facing decades in jail as a second-degree murder charge in Minnesota carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, while second-degree manslaughter carries up to 10 years in jail.
Chauvin is expected to appeal against his conviction.
Meanwhile, people across the U.S have taken to the streets and social media, celebrating the verdict against Chauvin.
