US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau jointly agreed to shoot down an unidentified object violating Canadian airspace, according to statements released Saturday. According to a White House statement, Biden and Trudeau made the decision to shoot down the object “out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of their militaries.” After the North American Aerospace Defense Command discovered the cylindrical object Friday evening, Canadian and U.S. jets intercepted it, and a U.S. F-22 — deployed for the third time this week — shot it down Saturday afternoon.

“I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace,” Trudeau tweeted Saturday. “@NORADCommand shot down the object over the Yukon. Canadian and U.S. aircraft were scrambled, and a U.S. F-22 successfully fired at the object,” the statement said.

“I spoke with President Biden this afternoon. Canadian Forces will now recover and analyze the wreckage of the object. Thank you to NORAD for keeping the watch over North America,” Trudeau added.

The latest incident comes a day after another F-22 brought down an unidentified cylindrical object over Alaska airspace, which is currently being recovered by the U.S. military near the Alaskan town of Deadhorse.

According to the Pentagon, NORAD detected the object over Alaska late Friday evening and monitored the object over U.S. airspace with the assistance of the Alaska Air National Guard and was "tracking it closely and taking time to characterize the nature of the object.

"Monitoring continued today as the object crossed into Canadian airspace, with Canadian CF-18 and CP-140 aircraft joining the formation to further assess the object," the statement said.

The object of unknown origin became the third object to be shot down by a United States owned F-22 raptor in the last week.

On Friday, the U.S. military shot down an unknown object over the northern coast of Alaska that landed on frozen water and is in the process of being recovered by the military.

The previous Saturday, the United States military shot down a Chinese spy craft off the coast of South Carolina that had floated down from Alaska, into Montana, and across the United States.
