The United States has banned all US soldiers stationed in Japan from drinking alcohol. The move came after one of the soldiers, suspected to be under the influence was involved in a deadly vehicular accident on Okinawa Island. In a statement issued by the US Military, the Marine reportedly crashed his truck into a minivan on Sunday, killing the driver of the other vehicle. It admitted that "alcohol may have been a factor" responsible for the crash.
According to BBC, the military also announced "mandatory training to address responsible alcohol use, risk management and acceptable behaviour for all its troops across Japan."
Meanwhile, Japanese police said the Marine involved in the crash was three times over the legal blood alcohol limit and has been arrested. The statement added that the unnamed Marine has also been charged with negligent driving resulting in death.
The United States currently has 26, 000 troops in Japan as part of the security alliance between the two countries.
