COVID-19: Nigeria Records 1,588 Fresh Cases And Six Deaths

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed it confirmed a fresh 1,588 new cases of the coronavirus in the country. The health agency revealed this in their new update record of yesterday saying the cases were reported in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

Accordingly, Lagos state being the epicentre of the pandemic has remained a state with the highest prevalence who reported 535 cases, Anambra state followed with 218 infections while Oyo state reported 155 fresh cases.

Other states who reported new cases were; FCT confirmed 150 cases followed by kano state who reported 124, Kaduna reported 49 while Ebonyi state recorded 48 cases, Plateau (46), Akwa Ibom (39), Niger (37), Edo (33), Katsina (23), Rivers (18), Taraba (15), Nasarawa (14), Ogun (11), Delta (9), Ekiti (2), and Jigawa (2).

According to the health agency, the various isolation centres across the country discharged 918 persons who have recovered from the pandemic, which include community recoveries in Lagos and Kano and Plateau states with 498, 64 and 54 respectively.

Unfortunately, 6 persons could not make it from the disease complication on Saturday pushing the toll of the mortality to 1,647 in the country.

Detail of the report revealed that Lagos state and Abuja FCT have continued to be placed with a high prevalence of the pandemic being the most densely populated cities, the two of them account for 6,439 and 6,204 admitted patients respectively and this translate to one-half of the 25,038 cases that have so far recorded in the country.

Meanwhile, a total of 139,242 coronavirus infections have now been confirmed since the index case on February 27, 2020, but 112,557 persons have recovered in the country.
