President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) advanced Cancer treatment center on Saturday in Idi Araba, Lagos. According to NAN, the cancer center was established to provide proper tertiary healthcare for Nigerian Cancer patients.

During the inauguration, the President announced that the center will be replicated across the country to enable quality service to all Nigerians, adding that the NSIA will also commission two new modern Medical Diagnostic Centres in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano State and Federal Medical Centre Umuahia in Abia State.

He averred that the establishment of the cancer center was necessary because 40% of funds spent by Nigerians on foreign medical trips are due to cancer treatments.

Mr. President further stressed the need for management of the centre to maintain the hospital's equipment as it will boost the healthcare sector. He promised to continously establish programmes to alleviate diseases in the country, as well as make policies to strengthen the healthcare sector.
