Update on COVID-19; Nigeria Now Has 407 Confirmed Cases, 128 Discharged, 12 Death

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 34 new cases on Wednesday Night, bringing the total confirmed cases to 407 in Nigeria.

 

The federal ministry of Health first confirmed the index case in Lagos state.

It was on the 27th of February, 2020 when the index case was recorded since the outbreak of the disease in China in January 2020.

The index case was an Italian national from Milan, Italy, who visited Lagos, Nigeria on 25th of February, 2020.

He was confirmed by the virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The patient was clinically stable with minimum symptom and was taken care of by the infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba Lagos.

According to the NCDC, 128 of the patients have been managed and discharged from hospital in the country, sadly, another chunk of persons numbering about 12 was recorded to be positive for the coronavirus.

President Buhari had on Monday made a nationwide broadcast announcing the extension of the lockdown order in states like Lagos, Ogun and Abuja FCT for additional two weeks to enable the government to contain the disease in the country.

Buhari said the government approach was a two-way approach which are; one was to protect the lives of Nigerians and the second preserved the livelihood of the business and its owners.

In his statement which partly reads;

“With this in mind and having carefully considered the briefings and Report from the Presidential Task Force and the various options offered, it has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT for another 14 days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020. I am therefore once again asking you all to work with Government in this fight”.
