The Federal Government (FG) through the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 has warned citizens against procuring fake vaccination cards through the black market. This was made known in Abuja at the national briefing of the PSC on Monday by the Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha. He said, "We have received intelligence and even detected that some unscrupulous citizens are procuring vaccination cards through the black market.

"Let me assure everyone that the vaccination records/certificates will be verified and this should serve as a warning to those criminally minded persons to desist because they will be prosecuted accordingly."

Similarly, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib disclosed at the PSC briefing that it has commenced a nationwide verification of vaccination record tagged "Operation Verify Your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Online".

Shuaib warned members of the public against the purchase or sale of fake COVID-19 vaccination cards because violators would be fully prosecuted.

He said, "The exercise will enable to confirm your personal information such as name, date of birth, and correct damaged QR codes. Verifying your personal information will enable the government to secure your vaccination record against impersonation and other fraudulent activities.

"We will invalidate all COVID-19 vaccination cards illegally obtained by unvaccinated people during this exercise. This also gives international travelers the opportunity to verify their vaccination records well ahead of their travel date.

"We, therefore, advise such persons to verify their records a week prior to their travel date to avoid delays at the point of departure. However, newly vaccinated persons are advised to verify their vaccination records 24 hours after."

The agency said members of the public can verify their vaccination records on www.vaccination.gov.ng/verification-guide or call the NPHCDA helpline: 0700 2200 1122 for further assistance.
