The Aguma of Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Magaji Mohammed has lamented the spate of growing mortality rate in the area, calling on government to urgently address the concern by increasing budgetary allocation to the health sector to improve child and family health services rendered across health facilities in the country.
The royal father made the call yesterday in Gwagwalada when officials of Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) and Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health in Nigeria (PACFAH) paid a courtesy visit to his palace. The Aguma assured the team that he would mobilize his people to support them in the realization of their campaign. According to him "you can be rest assured that my royal council will help to take your message to our people within the area council and also inform the appropriate authorities for proper consideration and implementation.
Speaking on behalf of the teams, the President of FOMWAN Maryam Hajiya blamed the rising cases of maternal mortality and prevalence of preventable diseases to poor sanitary conditions especially in at rural areas; lack of awareness campaigns on ways to tackle this menace, absence of medical facilities and practitioners in rural areas to promptly attend to the medical needs of the people.
