FG Expresses Worry Over Sharp Rise In COVID-19 Cases, Shut Down Imminent

The Federal Government has raised alarm about a potential increase in the spread of COVID-19 yesterday, probably occasioned by reported flagrant disregard for its guidelines on the relaxation of the five-week lockdown of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun States, cautioning that should the situation continue it will have no choice but to shut down the country.

Nigeria has on Saturday recorded 220 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total to 2388, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said. In a tweet, the NCDC said Lagos State recorded the highest number of new infections with 62, followed by FCT with 52, while Kaduna recorded 31 and Sokoto had 13 cases.
