Ebola Outbreak: WHO Sends Experts To Tackle The Democratic Republic of Congo and U.N. agencies began deploying emergency teams of specialists over the weekend to try to prevent the spread of an Ebola epidemic suspected to have infected more than 30 people, they said on Sunday.

The latest suspected case was reported on Friday in the northwestern province of Equateur, which Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga visited on Saturday with officials from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and U.N. Children’s Fund (UNICEF), according to Reuters.

Nurses Donate Drugs, Sanitary Pads To Girls School In Abuja

Nurses and midwives under the umbrella of Igala Nurses and Midwives Association (INAMA) on Friday, made donation of sanitary pads and drugs to students of Federal Government Girls’ College, Bwari, Abuja.

While presenting the items, President of the association, Mrs Christie Awunor, said the gesture was a medical outreach organised by the nurses as part of activities to commemorate the International Nurses Week.

Mrs Awunor said that the donation was aimed at promoting the health of the girls in the school while encouraging them to always use pads during their periods.

Ebola: WHO To Stem Outbreak In Congo Using Vaccine

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Friday that it intends to deploy an experimental Ebola vaccine to tackle the current epidemic in a remote area of Congo to mitigate it spreading, particularly to the provincial capital of 1 million people.

Congo reported the outbreak on Tuesday, with 32 suspected, probable or confirmed cases of the disease since April 4, including 18 deaths. A new suspected case was reported on Friday.

WHO is moving swiftly, having been criticised for bungling its response to a 2014-2016 outbreak that lead to the deaths of more than 11,300 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
