The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed yesterday that it has recorded an additional 571 new cases of coronavirus with additional 16 new deaths pushing the death toll to 740. With the new cases being on the rise, the Nigerian number of confirmed cases for the coronavirus has been pushed to 32,558 as at yesterday evening. Although careful examination of the pandemic has revealed there is a slight decrease when compared to that recorded on Saturday.

The health agency on its official tweeter handle released last night revealed that 30 states reported the case as follows; Lagos- 152, Ebonyi – 108, Edo – 53, Ondo – 46, FCT-38, Oyo-20, Kwara-19, Plateau-17, Osun-14, Bayelsa-14, Ekiti-14, Akwa Ibom-11, Kaduna-11, Rivers, Niger-10, Ogun-7, Kano-6, Cross-River-4, and Bauchi-2. All the states across Nigeria including the FCT have at least recorded a case.

Lagos being the epicentre has continued to retain the highest toll of the pandemic and the death cases in the country, while Zamfara has not reported any new case in the last 55days.

As of yesterday, 32,558 cases have been confirmed, 13,447 cases have been treated and discharged while 740 could not make it across the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Since the recording of the index case in the country last February 2020, about 200,000 samples have been tested. Unfortunately, data from the NCDC indicates the country is witnessing community transmission as 73 percent of those found with the disease, their source of contraction could not be established, saying most of those tested positive fall within the bracket of 31-40 years of age.
