Governor Fayemi Tests Positive To COVID-19 As Global Cases Exceeds 15 million

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has tested positive for COVID-19; The Governor who had tested negative on two occasions made this disclosure through his twitter handle. The governor who joins the growing list of state governors and other high profile Nigerians who have tested positive for coronavirus has delegated his deputy, Bisi Egbeyemi, to act in his absence, as he is in self-isolation.

According to Dr Fayemi Tweet “I took my third Covid-19 test yesterday and it came back positive. I’m generally ok and I’m already self-isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team. I’m delegating critical tasks to my Deputy but will continue routine duty from home. JKF”.

Nigeria has recorded about 30,000 cases of COVID-19 of the world 15 million cases. According to Reuters, global coronavirus infections has surged past 15 million on Wednesday and the pandemic is gathering pace with the rate of new infections showing no signs of slowing even as countries remain divided in their response to the crisis.

With the first wave of the virus still to peak in several countries, the official number of coronavirus cases at 15,009,213 is at least triple the number of severe influenza illnesses recorded annually, according to World Health Organization data, while the death toll of more than 616,000 in seven months is close to the upper range of yearly influenza deaths.
