COVID-19 Update: Infection Now 38,344 As Death Toll Hit 813

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed that the number of deaths of persons arising from the complication of coronavirus has now reached 813 and the total infected persons have hit 38,344.

The Health agency made this revelation through its official twitter handle on Wednesday. The data revealed that eight additional Nigerians died of the coronavirus complications on Wednesday.

NCDC revealed that as of Wednesday, 543 new cases were reported from 14 states across the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The health agency said that Lagos has continued to take the lead with 180 new cases which is the highest of all on daily toll followed by the FCT. Accordingly, Kaduna recorded 56, Edo, 47, Ondo, 37, Kwara, 35, Ogun, 19, Rivers, 19, Kano, 17, Ebonyi, 16, Enugu, 16, Delta, 7, Bayelsa, 4, Bauchi, 3 and Abia, 1. Meanwhile, it revealed that out of the number, 15,815 persons have been discharged.

It explained that a multi-sectoral National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities in the country. It explained that few amongst the symptoms of the deadly virus are sudden loss of taste and smell with fever, headache or runny nose may be COVID-19 and not malaria. It advises the populace not to ignore such symptoms if it manifests and should immediately call the hotline of the agency.

The health agency revealed that preventive measures such as hand washing have remained one of the most basic and effective means to prevent the spread of infections, including Meningitis. It disclosed that compared to the previous figure over the week; the recovery rate has recorded a slight decrease yesterday.

Meanwhile, the NCDC revealed ”Between June 22 and July 22, the number of confirmed cases increased by more than 50 percent, from 20,919 to a total of 38,344 infections, while the death toll has risen from 525 to 813 fatalities.
