The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed that Nigeria has recorded over 300 coronavirus infections for the fourth consecutive days; however the new infection yesterday was 318 persons.

With the new record, the nation’s total toll has risen to over 69,000 after 1,315 cases were recorded between Thursday and Sunday.

According to the health officials, the new cases recorded on Sunday were reported from 14 states pushing the total number of infection in the country to 69,255.

Although, no death was recorded of the infection on Sunday, making the death toll to remain at 1,180.

The NCDC record revealed that of the 69,255 infections recorded, 64,774 persons have been treated and discharged from across various isolation centres, while 3,000 are still an active case.

As at the time of filing this report on Sunday night, the health agency revealed that the states which reported the new cases were; Lagos-104, Kaduna -59, FCT-50, rivers-17, Ogun-16.
More so, other states were; kano-14, Nasarawa-14, Akwa Ibom-10, katsina-10, Edo-7, Oyo-5, plateau-4 and Taraba-3.

This raise in the infection comes as other countries are battling with the second wave of a resurgence of the dreaded virus especially Europe and America. The global infection toll has reached 66 million with about 1.5 million deaths.

It was observed that even as a global community are battling with the second wave of the pandemic, Nigerians seem to have lowered their guard including the authorities having weak enforcement strategy.

Lack of testing capacity and poor contact tracing has been a major problem in the authorities approach to the fight against the pandemic. However, there is optimism that soon the pandemic will be coming to an end with the introduction of a vaccine that has proven to be 90% effective.

Nigeria as at the time of making this report has so far tested only 800,000 persons out of its 200million population for the virus.

Meanwhile, in an effort to mitigate the spread of the pandemic, the presidential task force on covid-19 has advised the populace to desist from travelling in the yuletide season.
