NPHCDA Disclosed Plan On How COVID-19 Vaccine Will Be Distributed

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has disclosed how the agency is planning to distribute the coronavirus vaccine amongst the states eventually it arrives in Nigeria.

The health agency revealed that it is planning to distribute the vaccine equitably depending on the prevalence of the disease in each state.

Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the agency responsible for administering all logistics about infections outbreak said it recorded 1,585 fresh cases yesterday with eight deaths in less than 24hrs.

With the latest record, the toll for the dreaded virus has been pushed to 99,063 from 97,478 a day before, making such a wide gap within 24hrs.

Based on the record in the custody of the health agency, the distribution of the vaccine as earlier stated would be based on its prevalence making Kano state to take the lead with 3,557; it would be followed by Lagos state is the epicentre of the infection with 3,131; Katsina, 2,361; Kaduna, 2,074; Bauchi, 1,900; Oyo, 1,848; Rivers, 1,766; Jigawa, 1,712; Niger, 1,558; Ogun, 1,473; Sokoto, 1,468; Benue, 1,423; Borno, 1,416; Anambra, 1,379; Zamfara, 1,336; Delta, 1,306;

Other states to follow are; Kebbi, 1,268; Imo, 1,267; Ondo, 1,228; Akwa Ibom, 1,161.Adamawa, 1,129; Edo, 1,104; Plateau, 1,089; Enugu, 1,088; Osun, 1,032; Kogi, 1,030; Cross River, 1,023; Abia, 955; Gombe, 908; Yobe, 842; Ekiti, 830; Taraba, 830; Kwara, 815; Ebonyi, 747; Bayelsa, 589; FCT, 695; Nasarawa, 661.

According to NPHCDA, though all the states would receive less than 4,000 doses from the first consignment, this was deliberately made to ensure the front line health workers, the security agency and octogenarians are given priority for the vaccination.

The agency said the vaccine is expected to be ready by end of this month to next month and shall be strictly based on WHO standard and procedures.

The federal government was targeting 40% population this year with the vaccine; subsequent next year would be 30% making it the second batch. Though, a vaccine from Russia would also be considered said the officials.

While addressing the audience, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had revealed that 865 persons have recovered from the infection and were discharged from various isolation centres yesterday.

Meanwhile, NCDC said that the new cases reported yesterday were recorded from 25 states of the federation and the FCT with Lagos taking the lion share of the infection being the epicentre.

Other states recorded were, FCT-182, Plateau-162, Gombe-81, Oyo-75, Rivers-68, Sokoto-58, Ondo-55, Ogun-42, Nasarawa-40, Akwa Ibom-36, Edo-31, Kaduna-27, Anambra-22, Delta-19, Kano-17, Osun-17, Ebonyi-16, Katsina-14, Niger-14, Bayelsa-nine, Ekiti-eight, Borno-seven Jigawa-five, Abia-four and Bauchi-three.

The health agency revealed that since the recording of the index case, it has tested about 1,018,061 number of persons saying, a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre activated at Level 3, had continued to coordinate national response activities across the country.
