COVID-19 Update: Nigeria Record Fresh 1,444 Case Of Infection

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed that it has recorded a fresh 1,444 cases of the coronavirus in the country. The health agency made this known through its official website yesterday.

NAN reported that the country health agency has so far tested 1,154,138 persons since the index case was confirmed in Lagos February, 27 last year.

As at the time of reporting this case, Nigeria has a confirmed 110,387 coronavirus cases of the global pandemic with 89,317 persons discharged from various isolation centres and recorded 1,435 deaths.

The public health agency revealed that the latest 1,444 cases were reported from 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday in which 5 persons out of the cases died.

Accordingly, the states from which the cases were reported are as follows; Lagos being the epicentre of the pandemic has continued to take the lead followed by plateau and Kaduna states with 901,136 and 57 cases respectively.

Other states reported yesterday with the confirmed cases are; FCT-54, Ebonyi-53, Akwa Ibom-52, Nasarawa-32, Osun-29, Ogun-28, Imo-16, Oyo-16, Edo-15, Kano-14, Rivers-10, Ekiti-7, Borno-6, Abia-f5, Benue-4, Yobe-4, Kebbi-3, and Anambra-2.

This is as some 3,950 other persons were discharged from various isolation centres whom their result turned out negative after the second test.

NCDC added that the discharge included 717 community recoveries in Lagos state and a backlog of 2,825 community recoveries in FCT who were managed according to the PTF protocols.

The health agency said that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), has been activated at level 3 and is currently coordinating response activities nationwide.
