The Federal Government has today disclosed that it is contemplating locking down some selected states like Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja and others whom their cases of the daily coronavirus keep rising.
The officials were worried that despite the 127,000 cases so far recorded, Nigerians have refused to follow the coronavirus safety protocol imposed.
The National Incident Manager of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Mukhtar Muhammad, while talking to newsmen on Channel Television today stated that “Certainly, even if we are going to have a lockdown, it is not going to be a total lockdown.
“A couple of weeks back, we analysed the data and we identified the hotspot local government areas.”
“Mostly, the areas affected are the urban local governments in Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Plateau.
According to him, urban centres are the most affected especially that activities are high in these places; they will be the target of the lockdown eventually if it happens.
He said the PTF committee is advising individual states based on their daily record to be careful on how they enforce these safety protocols to avoid the risk of getting shut down.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has this morning reported 864 new cases of infection.
Meanwhile, the death toll as at this morning stands at 1,547 and for the first time, Lagos state is reporting zero-incident today being the epicentre.
The health agency reported that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded the highest infection with 129 cases followed by Anambra state with 87.
NCDC made the result known through their official tweeter handle that ”864 new cases of COVID- 19 in Nigeria.”
