COVID-19: Hope As Curve Flattening, Zero Death In The Last Three Days

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has yesterday disclosed that fatalities due to covid-19 were diminishing as the agency recorded zero death since Tuesday in Nigeria.

The death toll for the coronavirus has been stagnated at 2,061 since last weekend; no dew fatality has been recorded.

According to the health agency, only three deaths were recorded from a pneumonia complication for the past two weeks.

The toll for the coronavirus recorded in Nigeria stood at 164,080 as of yesterday with 80 fresh cases been reported from 12 states according to the health agency record.

The NCDC said they have been recording dwindling cases of the virus disease in the last one month, saying it is an indication; the country’s curve was flattening.

The fresh cases report yesterday were recorded from 12 states with Lagos state being the epicentre of the disease had the highest record of 29 cases followed by Rivers state with 19 cases, Zamfara state had 6 cases while Akwa Ibom recorded 4 persons; Edo, Osun and Plateau states have 4 cases each, while Ogun and Kano have 3 cases each; Nasarawa and FCT had 1 person each.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Nigeria last year February, the Nigeria Health agency has tested about 1.8million Nigerians for the virus.

According to the health records, more than 80% of Nigerians who contracted the disease have recovered from it after proper treatment.

The records revealed 154,285 persons have recovered from the 164,000 who contracted the disease, while about 8,000 persons are still undergoing treatment at various isolation centres.

The country has received more than 4million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine of AstraZeneca through a collaboration of COVAX initiative and the World Health Organisation.

According to the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, PHCDA, over a million Nigerians has s far been vaccinated against the deadly virus.

Although there were scepticisms among Nigerians on the efficacy of the vaccine, Dr Faisal Shuaibu, the Executive Secretary of the PHCDA said so far, no Nigerian has developed any side effect of the vaccine.
