Lagos State Nurses Declare Three-Day Warning Strike

The Lagos State Council of the National Association of Nigeria and Midwives (NANNM) has announced that it will be embarking on a three-day warning strike from January 10, over the government's failure to meet the association's demands.NANNM in a circular signed by the State Secretary, Oloruntoba Odumosu, with reference NANNM/LS/SEC/VOL.II/148/001, directing its members to embark on the strike.


The association said that it had resolved to embark on the warning strike during a meeting on December 29, 2021, adding that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration has failed to meet its demands.


Among the demands listed in the circular include payment of the uniform allowance, payment of retention allowance, shortage of nurses and midwives, regularisation of graduate and stagnation of nurses, improved welfare, and working condition of nurses.


The NANNM noted that the Federal Health Institutions are exempted from the strike, adding that the association will be monitoring for strict compliance of the strike action.


“The struggle at hand requires the commitment and steadfastness of all members. We urge you all to play your part well,” the union wrote.
