The Acting Executive Secretary of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Attahiru Ibrahim has called on the National Assembly to urgently amend the NHIS Act to make health insurance compulsory for all Nigerians, if the country desire to achieve universal health coverage.

The United Nations said it would require $9.9 million to effectively respond to the outbreak of cholera in the North East as well as to prevent further spread to other areas. The United Nations Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Peter Lundberg made the disclosure on Monday while interacting with newsmen. He warned that the various camps in the region were congested thus heightening possible spread of the epidemic.

Aggrieved members of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have suspended their strike. The suspension was announced on Thursday after a closed door meeting by the leadership of the Association. The Chairman of NARD, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Segun Olaopa announced the suspension in a chat with journalists.

Doctors Violated Trade Dispute Act

The Federal Government said that the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) violated section 18 of the Trade Dispute Act of the Federation of 2004 by embarking on strike. Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, said this at a conciliation meeting with the leadership of NARD on Wednesday in Abuja.
