The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed that it has recorded 685 fresh cases of coronavirus which has brought the toll to 131,242 in the country. The Health agency made this known through its official Twitter handle last night. Compared with previous result has indicated that the recent case released by the health agency yesterday was the least in its daily report since Jan 2, when a daily report of 576 was recorded. As at the time of filling this report, Nigeria has a total of 131,242 infections making the country the sixth highest in the African continent after Ethiopia, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and South Africa.
NCDC added that it was unfortunate, about eight persons were recorded to have died of the COVID-19 related complication in the last 24hrs pushing the death toll to 1,586.
The agency reported the latest cases were reported from 15 states across the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Lagos state being the epicentre is taking the lead in the toll with 355 cases and followed by Kaduna state with 58 cases. Nasarawa state reported 46 and followed by Kano state who recorded 40 cases.
Other states that reported the cases are; Akwa Ibom state who reported 33 and Kastina with 26. Ogun, Osun and Rivers states reported 26, 25 and 21 respectively. Edo state has 15, Oyo 13 and Ondo 12. Borno state reported 11 cases, while Ekiti and Kebbi states reported 3 cases each, while plateau state reported 2.
According to the public health agency, the number of recoveries is very appreciative as it currently stands at 104,989 with addition 1,227 patients discharged from various isolation centres across the country in the last 24hrs.
Also, about 901 and 123 community recoveries managed in line with the cOVID-19 protocols were recorded in Lagos and Plateau states respectively.
NCDC revealed that a multi-sectoral National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activated at level 3 is responsible for coordinating the activities.
Meanwhile, the country has so far tested 1,302,410 persons since the incident was first recorded in the country on February 27 2020.
