COVID-19 Vaccine: Over 500,000 Nigerians Have Taken The Jab – NPHCDA

The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) has disclosed that about 513,626 persons have so far received the Oxford-AstraZenca vaccine since it commenced administering in Nigeria.

The Health agency made this known last night through its official Twitter handle.

Nigerians commenced receiving the vaccination on 5th march, 2021 with health workers taking the lead since they are the people in the defense line between the virus and the populace.

NPHCDA had earlier said that the vaccine doses would be doled out in batches of up to four phases making the health workers take the lead being the frontline workers, then the rapid response team, laboratory workers, policemen, fuel filling stations, and some strategic leaders, the report said.

Subsequently, phase 2 would consider octogenarians’ above 50years of age, especially those with morbidities between the age of 18 and 49 years.

The report further revealed that the next phase shall consider peoples in the state/Local government Areas with high prevalence and those who missed the phase one and two.

Finally, phase 4 would capture every other Nigerian by then the vaccine would have been made available to all.

According to the NPHCDA yesterday as at the time of releasing this report, the agency has s far vaccinated about 53,626 persons from 35 states across the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, Kogi state is yet to commence its vaccination exercise as the state is yet to be supplied with the vaccine by the agency.

The Agency revealed that why the Kogi state vaccine was still lagging was because the state cold room was still under repair following its vandalization during the EndSars protest by some hoodlums.

According to the breakdown, Lagos state has so far vaccinated 110,042 persons, making it the highest in the country. Ogun, Kaduna, and Bauchi states followed with 47,507, 38,063, and 32,482 respectively, while Katsina and Kwara states vaccinated 28,918 and 26,473 respectively.

The health agency revealed that Abia, Taraba, and Kebbi states received the least vaccine with 22,111 and 532 respectively.

Nigeria earlier this month received about 3.9million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine of COVID-19 into the country and was followed by 300,000 donated by the MTN telecom giant as part of their contribution to Africa.

The Nigerian government planned o vaccinates 109 million of its citizen against coronavirus within two years the report added.
