China has on Thursday disclosed that it is providing COVID-19 vaccine to nearly 40 African Nations, Director of the Foreign Ministry official, Wu Peng said. According to Peng, the development is altruistic in apparent intensification, describing it as “vaccine diplomacy”, adding that the vaccines have been donated or sold at “favourable prices”.

He said China compared its outreach with that of “some countries that have said they have to wait for their own people to finish the vaccination before they could supply the vaccines to foreign countries,”

“We believe that it is, of course, necessary to ensure that the Chinese people get vaccinated as soon as possible, but for other countries in need, we also try our best to provide vaccine help,” Peng said.

The Washington Post report disclosed that the United Nations Security Council had on Wednesday called for an accelerated availability of COVID-19 vaccines for African countries in a bid to address the spread of the virus.
