COVID-19: Nigeria Records, 636 New Infections, 11 Deaths

Nigeria is currently treating and managing over 12, 000 people infected with the COVID-19 virus across the country, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said. About 636 new infections of COVID-19 and 11 death have been recorded on Friday, raising the fatality rate to 2,211 since the emergence of the pandemic in the country, while the total infection rate is now 181,297.


According to NCDC, the new infections were recorded across 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).


The states include Lagos which had the highest infections of 291, Rivers with 117, while Taraba had 58 and Akwa Ibom had 54 cases.


Others are Kwara with 28 cases, Ekiti and Ogun had 14 cases each, FCT recorded 13, Oyo State had 11 cases, Edo State had 9, while Osun recorded 6.


Also, Bayelsa had 5 cases, Delta and Gombe recorded 4 infections each, while Abia and Plateau had 3 cases and Sokoto recorded the lowest with 1 infection.


The health body has continued to urge Nigerians to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines of social distancing, wearing face masks among others, as well as advising them to take the available vaccines in the country.
