The spokesperson of Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba sociocultural group, Yinka Odumakin is dead. The late Odumakin, a publicity analyst, activist, and politician reportedly died on Saturday in Lagos. Speaking on Odumakin’s death, his wife, Joe Okei-Odumakin in a statement, said her husband died, on Saturday, at the intensive care unit of LASUTH where he was being treated for respiratory issues. Okei-Odumakin had said her husband recovered from COVID-19 a week ago before his sudden death. She appreciated the sympathy shown to her and the family by well-meaning Nigerians since the news broke out, adding that the burial arrangement will be announced soon.
“The sad event happened this morning (Saturday, 3/4/2021) at the intensive care unit of LASUTH where he was being managed for respiratory issues due to complications from COVID-19 which he had recovered from about a week ago,” she said.
“I appreciate the outpouring of grief and sympathy from home and abroad as I mourn my irreplaceable soulmate. I urge us all to remain steadfast in the cause of the masses to which he dedicated his life.
“Burial arrangement will be made public in due course.”
Many Nigerians including Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, JJ. Omojuwa, Social media expert, have commensurate with the family of the deceased on social media.
Keyamo wrote “Yinka’s death is a personal loss to me. He & the wife, Joe, have been my long-time friends & allies. I knew them separately before they met & got married. I just called the wife’s line & they’re still at the hospital. My deepest condolences to Josephine & the Odumakin family.”
Omojuwa wrote: “Rest in peace Yinka Odumakin. Love and prayers of strength to his family, friends, and comrades.”
