FETHI, EKSUTH Cancer Registries Take Free Screenings To Communities

The Ekiti State Government has organised a free cancer screening outreach programme through the Cancer registries of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI) and Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti for breast and cervical cancer in Otun, and Isan-Ekiti communities of Moba and Oye Local Government Areas.

Speaking, Dr. Abidemi Omonisi, Director of Ekiti State Cancer Registry, explained that cancer is an unwanted or abnormal growth of cells that may have an effect on any part of the body. He highlighted preventive measures to take against cancer.

 

Dr. Mojisola Ayodele, a consultant from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, FETHI, informed women on the need for regular breast and cervical cancer screening. She implored participants between ages 20 and 60 to get screened at any standard health facilities 

 

Also Speaking, Dr. Akanni demonstrated the proper way to carry out self-breast examinations for the women.

 

During the programme, counselling, diagnosis, referrals, as well as cervical and breast screening procedures, were carried out by cancer specialists and other necessary health care providers.
