Nigeria has recorded 381 new cases on Thursday, May 7, being the highest confirmed number of COVID-19 cases in a single day since its first case in February, thereby bringing the total number to 3,526, with 601 discharged and 107 deaths.
The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet on Thursday night said the new cases were reported in 18 states. These are Lagos, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Bauchi, Katsina. Borno, Kwara, Kaduna, Gombe, Ogun, Sokoto, Oyo, Rivers, Niger, Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Plateau states.
A breakdown of the new cases shows that Lagos state had 183, Kano had 55, Jigawa had 44, while 19 each were recorded in Zamfara and Bauchi.
Katsina recorded 11, Borno had 9, Kwara had 8, Kaduna had 7, Gombe with 6, Ogun had 5, four in Sokoto, Oyo and Rivers had 3 each, 2 in Niger and 1 each in Akwa-Ibom, Enugu and Plateau states.
Globally more than 3.8 million infractions have been recorded, with 269,584 deaths and 1,285,965 recoveries. Meanwhile, the WHO has cautioned that 190,000 may lose their lives to COVID-19 in Africa if the virus is not contained.
