Court Instructs FG to Reopen Dele Giwa Murder Case

A Federal Court in Abuja has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice on Friday, to re-open the investigation leading to the death of the founder of Newswatch Magazine, Dele Giwa, who was killed by a parcel bomb at his residence in Ikeja, Lagos state in 1986. The judgment was presided over by Inyang Ekwo, in a suit filed by the incorporated Trustee of Media Right Agenda (MRA). had dragged the AGF before the court for the enforcement of fundamental rights of media practitioners to safety as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution and African Charters on Human Rights.

FG Places N2m Bounty On Lawyer For Child Abuse

The Federal Government has declared Anambra-based lawyer Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor wanted for allegedly burning her 11-year-old house help and placed a N2 million bounty on her. Chukelu-Okafor who is currently at large, was alleged to have used a hot-pressing iron and knife to burn and chop in pieces, the private part of her house help. Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, revealed this at a news conference in Abuja, following a viral video of the girl after she was abused and returned to her aunt, who gave her out as house help. Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that the suspect has been evading authorities since the incident. According to the minister, she has changed her contact data although she remains active on social media, saying no action will be taken against her.

$6.3m Theft: FG Requests Interpol To Hunt Emefiele's Alleged Accomplices

The Nigerian government has requested the assistance of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to hunt and arrest three defendants in the alleged withdrawal of $6.2 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) last year through a forged document. The office of the Special Investigator of the CBN, Jim Obazee, made the request on Monday after obtaining an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The suspects are Adamu Abubakar, Imam Abubakar, and Odoh Eric Ocheme. The federal government had filed extradition charges against the trio for allegedly forging the signature of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and documents purportedly written by Boss Mustapha, the former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), to induce the payment of $6,230,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

EFCC Declares Wife of Past CBN Governor Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) has declared Margaret Emefiele, the wife of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, and three others wanted for alleged money laundering case on Friday night. The other three involved in the case were identified as Eric Ocheme Odoh, Anita Joy Omoile, and her husband Jonathan Omoile, for allegedly conspiring “to convert huge sums of money belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria and committed felony to wit: obtaining money by false pretences, and stealing, contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”
