President Muhammadu Buhari has on Thursday granted presidential pardon to 2,600 inmates in Nigeria Correctional Service Facilities nationwide. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola made the disclosure during the World News Conference in Abuja,

saying the pardon does not apply to inmates sentenced for extreme violence including Kidnapping, Terrorism, culpable homicide, rape, banditry, and human trafficking among others.


Aregbesola noted that 70 inmates of which 41 Federal inmates and 29 FCT inmates from the Kuje Maximum Custodial Centre will benefit from the pardon.


The minister also said three high profile ex-convicts benefitted from the presidential pardon, giving them a clean slate as if they were never convicted.


Meanwhile, Governors of the 36 states will complete the presidential pardon in their states.
