12 directors of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been suspended as Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the commission was on Wednesday night granted bail after nine days in police custody.
Magu who was invited by the Presidential Investigative Panel led by Justice Ayo Salami over corruption allegations was later suspended by the Presidency.
The suspended EFCC chairman was alleged to have purchased a property in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates through a pastor and also accused of laundering N500 billion through a bureau-de-change in Kaduna State.
Magu through his lawyers have since denied the allegations, also, the pastor issued a statement denying connections to the suspended chairman.
Magu's release came after his lawyer sent a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu requesting bail which the IG said he was not the person who authorized Magu's detention and referred the lawyer to the Presidential Panel where he was later released.
According to The Nation, Magu said "As for me, I will forever wage war against corruption. I urge Nigerians to continue to support the fight against corruption, they should not give up on the fight because corruption kills a nation faster than any other thing," while speaking on his suspension.
"It is not a personal fight. Whether I am the EFCC Chairman or not, the anti-corruption war must continue."
"What I have gone through is a case of dog eats dog but I see it as one of those risks of the job, We must not give up".
Further speaking on his allegations, he said "They are nonsense, they are mere trumped-up allegations to tarnish my image and that of the EFCC. I did not steal or divert or convert funds to private use. I read the allegations and I was shocked.
"I thank Nigerians for their support, they should not be discouraged.
I am happy to be back, I believe the war against corruption is winnable."
The notice of the suspension of the commission's directors was disclosed to the acting chairman, Mohammed Umar by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami.
Some of the suspended directors were speculated to have been involved in investigations against Malami alleging his link to corrupt practices.
