The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of Senator Ali Ndume, Chairman Committee on Army for his failure to produce, Abdulrasheed Maina, a controversial Chairman of the Presidential Pension Reform Task Team who was charged with corruption bordering on N2 billion police pension.
The presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang has today ordered that Ndume should be reminded at the Kuje correctional center for failure to produce Maina for trial until the forfeiture of the N500 million bail bond he deposited for to the Federal High Court.
The judge had on November 18 withdrew the bail granted to Maina and ordered his arrest through the Nigerian security and parade Maina before the court to answer his reason for jumping his bail.
Earlier before issuing the warrant of his arrest, Justice Abang revoked the N500 million bail he granted Maina for the reason that he consistently jumped bail by refusing to appear before the court at the appointed date.
He also gave Senator Ndume until November 23 to tell the court why he should not forfeit the N500 million bail bond he deposited with the court.
Ndume, a Senator representing Borno South Federal Constituency during the appointed date informed the court that he only accepted Maina’s parent and wife's plea because the condition was for a serving Senator to appear in court during the proceedings, and being his constituent member he accepted just that.
Maina was on October 25, 2019, arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 12-count charges of money laundering and concealment of unlawful acts between 2011 and 2014.
