A Federal High Court, Abuja presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo has scheduled December 12, 2023, to rule on the admissibility of 6 different statements allegedly implicating a former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), in the alleged $1.1 billion Malabu Oil Fraud. Justice Ekwo fixed the date on Wednesday, following arguments brought forward by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) who stood in for Adoke and Mr. Ofem Uket, who represented the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The 6 statements in question were issued on different days by the oil tycoon, Aliyu Abubakar who is standing trial alongside Adoke in the alleged oil fraud.
Olanipekun told the court that the disputed statements were made in gross violation of section 17 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
Olanipekun argued that 5 operatives of the Commission coerced the maker of the statements, Abubakar Aliyu, to implicate Adoke.
The anti-graft agency is prosecuting Adoke alongside Aliyu Abubakar on a 14-count charge bordering on money laundering.
