Kidnapped Nasarawa Former Deputy Gov Regains Freedom

A former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Prof. Onje Gye-Wado has been released after he was kidnapped on Thursday by gunmen at his country home in Rinza village, Wamba Local Government Area of the state. This development was confirmed on Monday by Nasarawa State, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramham Nansel.


The police stated that it was unaware if a ransom was paid for his release but according to reports, his abductors demanded N70 million, however, sources claim that about N4 million was paid by his family members to secure his freedom.

Sources further revealed that the abductors collected the ransom and N200 recharge card near Mada Hills Secondary School located in Akwanga LGA and the former governor was released on Sunday night close to Angwan Chiyawa, around the hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon LGA.

Gye-Wado was a former deputy governor of the state between 1999 and 2003.
