Presidency Proponent Automatic Employment for First Class Graduates

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Hon. Comrade Sunday Dayo Asefon, pushes for a paradigm shift where automatic employment is given to first-class graduates in universities where they graduate and MDAs. This was revealed by Asefon during the unveiling of the Nigerian students’ flag and Renewed Hopen Agenda by his office in the nation's capital on Thursday. He disclosed that by March this year, his office will be unveiling other initiatives to renew the hope of Nigerian students so that they can go back to their campuses and enlighten students to key into the agenda of the government. According to him, “A befitting celebration and rewarding prize for overall best graduates from every tertiary institution vis-a-viz arrangements of automatic absorption into academic by school authorities and other MDAs.”

NBA Star Giannis Opens Learning Centre For Igbo Literacy In Lagos

Giannis  Antetokounmpo, a 29-year-old Nigerian-Greek NBA star, has unveiled a learning centre in Lagos to promote Igbo literacy among children in Nigeria. Giannis plays in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks in the United States. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player unveiled this in a documented YouTube video titled ‘UGO: A Homecoming Story’ Ft. Giannis Antetokounmpo, with the NBA star being accompanied by his mother Veronica Antetokounmpo, who emigrated from Nigeria to Greece 35 years ago. Born in Athens, Greece, on December 6, 1994, his father Charles Antetokounmpo was a staunch soccer fan, and his mother was a high jumper.

2024 UTME: JAMB Announces Free Registration For Persons With Disability

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) have said Persons Living With Disability who wish to sit for the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can register at no cost. The JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while explaining the registration process for interested candidates across the country which commenced today (Monday), 15th January 2024. "To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE," Oloyede said. Oloyede, said the board has placed adequate measures to ensure a smooth exercise for all candidates, adding that audiobooks will now be provided for all blind candidates. He noted that the development was a digital adaptation of the traditional reading book, noting that it will come in popular audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA which will be compatible with all devices that can stream audio records.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, met with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to work out modalities for early resolution of industrial disputes before it snowballs into major crisis.
