FG Directs Reopening Of Schools Nationwide

The Federal Government has declared full reopening of all schools in Nigeria by October, 12. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made the announcement on Friday in Abuja. He also directed all Federal Colleges also known as Unity schools, to reopen on same October 12. Adamu said State Governments and private school owners are at liberty to open based on COVID-19 protocols developed for safe reopening of schools.

The Rivers State Government has on Friday announced that universities, secondary schools, other tertiary institutions, and vocational schools in the state are set to reopen on October 5, 2020. The commissioner of education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku made this known while addressing journalists at the end of an emergency State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike, at the Government, Port Harcourt. He said the reopening of schools did not include primary level, adding that a seven-man taskforce will be established to monitor the compliance of COVID-19 safety measures by schools.

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian University (ASUU) has insisted that the Federal Government must adopt the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a condition to end the six months of industrial action.

School Reopening: Gombe State Approves 5th October

The approval for the reopening of all Public and private schools in Gombe state has been granted by the government, which it said will take effect from Monday, October 5, 2020. This is coming, after six month of COVID-19 break. The state commissioner for Education, Dr. Habu Dahiru, who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen on in Gombe on Thursday, said they would complete third term of 2019/2020 academic session in three weeks and begin first term from October 25. "By this announcement therefore, all schools are to open as follows; October 4 for boarding schools, October 5 for day schools, including primary, Islamiya and Tsangaya," commissioner Dahiru said.
