The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has on Wednesday approved the bill proposing the extension for the retirement age of Nigerian teachers from 60 to 65 years. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made the disclosure while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The approved bill; Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Bill, 2021 is to be sent to the National Assembly for consideration and subsequent approval. According to the bill, the teaching profession in the country will be enhanced for better education
If approved by NASS, the retirement age of Nigerian teachers will be 65 years of age from 60, while the service year will become 40 years as opposed to the current 35 years of service.
