The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as well as relevant stakeholders in the tertiary education sector, have fixed cut-off marks for 2022 admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide. The decision was reached on Thursday at the Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria which was chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

Others in attendance were officials from JAMB, the Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), amongst others.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede announced 140 as the minimum cut-off mark for universities, while a minimum score of 100 is required for polytechnics and colleges of education.

Part of the resolutions reached the policy meeting include: “Every institution is at liberty to determine the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score acceptable to it for admission. Similarly, for Direct Entry (DE) admissions, each institution will determine the number of points required by it for DE admission. Nevertheless, no institution can recommend or admit any candidate with less than two points for DE.

“In the same vein, no institution can admit/accept the transfer of a candidate for any degree program unless the candidate has spent on full-time, not less than two consecutive sessions in the institution”.
