UN Raises Concern Over Impending Boko Haram Attack in Damaturu, Issues Security Advisory to Field Officers

In the report, the UNDSS suggested some security tipstitled ‘Security Advisory on Impending BokoHaram Attack on Damaturu, YobeState’, and was made available to newsmen.

The UN Department of Safety and Security indicated thatBokoHaram insurgents might have concluded plans to carry out a coordinated attack from different directions on Damaturu town of the State. Further information revealed that, based on the looming threats issued by the insurgents, Nigerian Security Forcesdomiciled in the State has been placed on a high level of alertness.

UN Department of Safety and Security statement further disclosed that, although no specific date and time, as well as targeted locations,was given for the attack, it reminded its Officials that a similar threat was issued on Damaturu town approaching the month of December 2014 by the BokoHaraminsurgents and eventually; the insurgents made real their threat during Christmas season of the year.

According to UN Department of Safety and Security, the most recent incident of BokoHaram attack on Security Forces camped in Katarkovillage located on the outskirt of Damaturutown was said to have been a reprisal attack on Security Forces because some BokoHaram insurgents were killed by the Government Forces.

The statement from the UN Department of Safety and Security further advised its field Officers in Yobe State to: 

i- Limit their movements within Damaturu metropolis;

ii- Maintain a high degree of alertness and security awareness always;

iii- Be aware of their surroundings;

iv- Monitor local news stations;

v- Review their personal security arrangements;

vi- Avoid crowded public places; and

vii- Report any suspicious activity to UN security office or UN Radio rooms close to them, among other precautionary measures.
