Federal Government has launched a national campaign in support of the military fighting against Boko Haram and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), THE NATION reports. Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed unveiled the campaign yesterday in Abuja.

Mr. Mohammed said the campaign is aimed at supporting Nigerian troops fighting the war in the North East and West of the country, adding that ISIS has a stronghold in West Africa and Nigeria has been in the forefront of the fight against the terrorist groups.

The campaign sets to inform Nigerians on the intensity of the Boko Haram insurgency, to warn the public against publishing false videos or pictures to ridicule troops in the Northeast, to boost the morale of the Nigerian soldiers and to implore journalists to be objective in reporting insurgency as well as seek official clarification before reporting casualty figures.

The Minister noted that the "National Campaign in Support of the Military” is a follow up to the National Campaign against Insecurity launched in 2016.

He disclosed that the campaign was necessary as Nigerian troops encounter not only Boko Haram but also global insurgency.
