The Federal Government has frowned at the producers and marketers of chemical weapons for proliferating into the hands of the non-state actors.
The Permanent Secretary, Political and Economical Affairs in the office of the SGF, Mr. Gabriel Aduda issued this warning on Tuesday in Kano during a sensitization workshop.
The workshop as a panacea for avoiding chemicals falling into wrong hands organized by the federal government to create awareness to stakeholders in the Northwest on proper management of chemicals.
According to Aduda, part of the workshop was also aimed at enhancing awareness and safety through strengthening the understanding of stakeholders on best practice for managing chemical and biological weapons.
He added, chemical producers, marketers, transporters, and users, as well as regulatory authorities involved in implementation of the Chemical Weapon Convention (CWC), took part in the workshop.
In his statement, the objective is targeted to increase awareness among relevant stakeholders and Representative of the chemical producing industries in the Northwest zone on the CWC and its national implementation in relation to the chemical industry.
This can be achieved through proper enforcement of laws bordering the CWC that chemical imported into the country are utilized for the purpose for which they were meant to serve. While the government ensures that the chemicals do not end up in the wrong hands as this will have a grave consequence.
He noted that similar events were host at Lagos and Port Harcourt, meanwhile some stakeholders present at the meeting commended the federal government for taking such giant stride, saying it has increased their awareness on how best to handle chemical weapons.
They suggested to the government to put in place an action plan that will regulate the threat of chemical weapon.
