Electrocution of Inmates: FG Suspends 8 Correctional Service Officers For Culpability

The Civil Defence, Correctional, and Fire Services Board (CDCFIB) has today suspended 7 very senior officers and 1 junior personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) over there culpability in an alleged electrocution of 5 inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Lagos.

Mr Francis Enobore, the public Relation Officer (PRO) of the NCoS, disclosed this today, saying the suspension was to make room for proper investigation into their level of involvement in the incident.

 

Enobore revealed in a letter signed by Mr Hassan S. Yakmut, the secretary of the board indicated that the officers shall remain under suspension pending investigation is completed.

 

Recalled that five inmates were killed and seven others sustained various degrees of injuries in a fire incident that occurred at the Ikoyi Correctional centre on Monday.

 

Subsequently, an investigation to unveil the cause of the incident was immediately ordered by the Comptroller General of the NCoS, Mr Ahmed Ja’afaru.

 

Meanwhile, the investigation team is expected to swing into action with immediate effect.
