The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Igbo National Council (INC), has placed a demand on the governors of the South-East to establish regional security outfit for the South-East geopolitical zone. During a meeting, which was attended by their members from 20 states of the country, the group led by its National President Chilos Godsent, gave a 90 days ultimatum for the launch of the regional security outfit, after it rejected the view of the Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Mohammed Adamu's, proposal for community policing for the South-East zone.
The group's National President, while expressing the view of the group on the subject said they condemn what they like to describe as "naked cowardice exhibited by the governors of the South-East on its failures to create the highly-demanded South-East regional security outfit just as their counterparts in the North-West and South-West geopolitical zones.
“We wish to inform the people of the Igbo race that the proposed community policing by the IGP is meant to officially aid the framework for intelligence gathering and invasion of Igbo communities by the jihadist," Mr Godsent said while reading a communiqué at the meeting.
“On the foregoing, the Igbo National Council requests the governors of the South-East, South-South and North-Central geopolitical zones respectively as a matter of urgent necessity to establish and officially inaugurate their regional security outfits like the South-West (AMOTEKUN) and North-West (SEGE KA FASA) within 90 days from 29th February 2020 as a sign of patriotism and commitment to the security and welfare of their citizens."
Among other issues presented by Godsent, the president revealed that they are in full support of the call by the National Assembly, and many other Nigerians urging President Muhammadu Buhari to sack all the service chiefs with immediate effect. The group also advised the leadership of Miyetti Allah in Nigeria to call on its members who now camp in many forests in South-East and South-South geopolitical zone to immediately vacate those forests in the interest of peace.
Mr Godsent, however, stressed that should the governors fail to go with their recommendation, that concerned groups in those geopolitical zones may be compelled to resort to more desperate means to protect their citizens from the rampaging Fulani jihadists.
