It appears the attention of the French government has been drawn to the ravaging insecurity in the country. French Ambassador to Nigeria Jerome Pasquier on Wednesday, Feb. 26, has expressed concern that he believes the Nigerian government is not doing enough to stamp out insecurity causing immense misery to many Nigerians.
During a workshop,organised by the French Embassy, the Pastoral Reserve, the search for Common Ground, and the NexTier SPD tagged "Addressing Rural Insecurity and Violence in North-western Nigeria, the ambassador urged the government to intensify efforts as well as hatch up new approaches to deal with the prevalent scourge.
Ambassador Pasquier was represented by the Head of Cooperation, Embassy of France in Nigeria, Ellen Helios. "There are many factors affecting the northwest region for years now, there are also many actors, but I don’t think there is enough being done by the actors to have a better understanding of the situation and try to find some appropriate solutions to the insecurity and the subsequent sufferings," he said.
Speaking, Senior Research and Policy Lead, NexTier SPD, NdubuisiNwokolo, mentioned that the nation's security problem is not only exclusive to the north alone but that the whole country could bear the consequences of collective negligence should the country fail to resolve the insurgency problem.
MrNwokolo, also warned that food security may set in should the insecurity subsist.
