The Nigerian Army has continued to sustain progress in the fight against insurgents in the North-East axis. Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to Sector 1, Operation Lafiya Dole, have neutralized 9 Boko Haram terrorists during an ambush staged for the insurgents along the Mainok-Jakana Road in the Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday, May 13, about 6 pm. This is coming as the state Government called-off the three weeks lockdown imposed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Deputy Governor and state Chairman, COVID-19 Response Committee, Usman Kadafur said the lockdown is being suspended indefinitely to study the situation for a while, however, where the situation escalates, the government would revert to status quo.
Kadafur stated that prayers at mosques and church services could resume as far as strict adherence to social distancing and wearing of face masks is maintained.
The army, while speaking on the ambush, which was carried out on, resulted in a firefight, adding that.
In a release, the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagir Musa, said two soldiers got injured during the firefight, adding that two gun trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns were also captured by troops. Col. Musa also said exploitation of the area was ongoing.
“Troops of Sector 1 have successfully staged an ambush at identified Boko Haram terrorists crossing point at Mainok-Jakana axis in Kaga LGA," He said.
“So far, nine Boko Haram terrorists lost their lives; two gun trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns have been captured and exploitation is ongoing by the troops. Two soldiers are slightly wounded. The situation in the area has been normalised,” Musa added.
