President Muhammadu Buhari has today called on the international community that Nigeria is still battling to bring an end to the Boko Haram and banditry menace. Mr. Buhari made this statement in his pre-recorded address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The President urged countries to fortify their boundaries against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
He said, “Nigeria remains deeply concerned over the illicit trade, transfer, and circulation of small arms and light weapons, particularly on the continent of Africa. In Nigeria, we are still facing violent extremism from the insurgency of Boko Haram and bandits,”
He acknowledged Nigerian cooperation with its neighboring countries and the UN counter-terrorism bodies to overcome terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin in the wider Sahel region.
Buhari said his government would continue the rehabilitation effort of reconstruction and reintegration of the Internally Displace Persons (IDPs) from the North-East.
Meanwhile, on the coronavirus pandemic, Buhari said his administration is ready to receive the supply of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for all.
