Some Chibok girls who have been in captivity of Boko Haram since the year 2014 have escaped today. Daily Trust reports that a parent spoke to its correspondents who told them that some of them were contacted by officials handling them and might be soon invited to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital for a debriefing.
It was revealed that one girl, Halima Ali by name who is believed to be amongst the girls abducted by the insurgents in the year 2014, and a sister to one Maryam who escaped five years ago.
It was gathered that Halima, on the instruction of Shekau, the Boko Haram leader was married-off to one of the dreaded commanders of the insurgents a few months after their abduction from their school in 2014.
A source close to the family revealed that upon hearing the news of her return, people from the neighborhood trooped into the compound to take a glimpse of Halima and also congratulate the family for her safe return after these years.
Although, her father, Ali Maiyanga could not be reached through phone, however, the Secretary of the Chibok Parents teachers Association, Lawal Zannah, confirmed that he received the information that some of their abducted daughters have escaped the den of the insurgents but he was yet to ascertain how many of them escaped.
In his statement, “We heard that some of our girls have escaped from the forest, but we are yet to get the detail about their number,” Zannah said.
Boko Haram abducted about 219 Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in April 2014 as they were preparing to write their Senior Secondary Examination.
Four of the abducted girls Maryam Ali, Amina Ali, Solomi Titus, and Rakiya Ntsiha escaped the captivity before the release of the 21 and the subsequent 82 that the federal government negotiated with the terrorist in 2018.
