The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised alarm that some interest groups is planning to launch ethno-religious violence in the country. The secret police issued the warning today through its Public Relation Officer (PRO), Dr. Peter Afunaya. According to the statement, states like Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Rivers, Plateau, Oyo, and some part of the South Eastern states of the country are amongst the places pencilled to witness violence if issues are not managed.
DSS said the said violence will be targeted at religious worship centres, some selected religious leaders, and other prominent Nigerians.
According to the DSS spokesperson, the group planning to foment this trouble is working closely with external forces to give the violence a religious coloration from across the length and breadth of the country.
He revealed though, the department has warned the suspected group that the service is aware of their plan and would face the wrath of the law if they refuse to rescind.
Meanwhile, he added that the office would continue to collaborate with sister agencies in the country for necessary action against the perpetrators of evil to ensure that Nigerians go about their means of livelihood in a peaceful manner.
The service vowed that they would emplace measures to frustrate the plan of the evil merchants masquerading as good citizens in the country to safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians.
