Senator Rochas Okorocha has blamed the failed family system and injustice as responsible for the diverse insecurity that is troubling the country at present. The former Governor of Imo state explained that the role of womanhood has been relegated to the background in a typical family setting by politicians, and therefore suggested that for us to get it right as a country, there must be inclusiveness of women at both decision making and governance.
According to him, he painted a nexus between the collapse in the family value system which has given rise to the insurgency, banditry, and youth restiveness, describing that every community begins with a family unit.
The Senator representing Imo West Senatorial district made this statement when he received an Award of Excellence from the United Business Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora, urging the women that they a critical role to play when it comes to securing the nation through impacting moral values on children while growing up.
Okorocha said, “A woman is a special creation by God, women are givers and custodians of life, nations that ignore their women are considered failed nations, while nations that make good use of their women are called developed nations.
The lawmaker warned “So if Nigeria must rise again, then we must make a turnaround and look at the women. If we don’t carry the women along, we are in for very serious trouble”,
The former Governor explained that if we want to get it right as a country, then we must be ready to carry women along and start everything at a family level before taking it out to the bigger society, otherwise, we shall be in great trouble, he said.
He argued that “No sane woman who gave birth to a child will allow the child to go astray.
According to him, what you give a woman is what you get in return, and in this case, the Nigerian populace has abandoned woman for a long and we are reaping it today, he added.
He said “While we men have succeeded in dividing this country along religious and ethnic lines, the women have remained a force of unity.
“For as long as we have not empowered the women in the house to give us good family, for as long as our politicians continue on the path of injustice, insurgency, and kidnapping will never stop”.
While presenting the award, the president of the Association, Mrs. Nkiruka Madu, said the former Governor was selected for the award as a mark to appreciate his philanthropic contribution especially in the empowering of women and provision of free education for children.
