IGP: Police Council Confirms Alkali Baba

The Police Council has confirmed Mr. Alkali Baba's appointment as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). This was disclosed by the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi who confirmed the development to State House correspondents.

The decision to appoint Baba as IGP was taken following the Council's meeting, which was presided over by President Buhari. Baba was appointed as acting IGP by President Buhari on April 6, 2021.

Section 7 (3) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 provides that the president can appoint the IGP based on the advice of the Police Council.

The council meeting was attended by top government officials such as Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Others at the meeting were Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari; Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola amongst others.
