The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it had recovered the sums of N152,088,698,751.64, $386,220,202.84, £1,1182,519.75, €156,246.761, 723,310.00 Saudi Riyal, 1,900.00 South African Rands, and 1,400 Canadian Dollars between the period of January and December 2021.
The anti-graft agency also said it had recovered 5,36957319 Bitcoin and 0.09012 Ethereum during 2021.
This was disclosed on Monday in a statement by the commission’s, Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren who said the money was recovered directly and indirectly, for federal, state, and local governments, corporations, and individuals, who were victims of financial crimes.
According to the statement, EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja dominated the recoveries; Lagos Command was second while the Kaduna zonal command of the agency emerged third.
The commission had also disclosed last week that it had secured 2,200 convictions in 2021; the highest recorded annual conviction since the inception of the agency.
Uwujaren said the chairman of the agency, Abdulrasheed Bawa, commended the personnel of EFCC for their performance, and also encouraged them to double their efforts in order to ensure that perpetrators of economic and financial crimes are denied the benefits of the proceeds of crime.
